BLUEBELL PORTRAIT SESSION PREPARATION GUIDE

Tips and what to wear ideas

BLUEBELL PORTRAIT SESSIONS IN LONDON 2025

If you would like to get the most out of your Bluebell Portrait Session, please follow my tips below. The information  below serves as a simple guide to help you to get ready for your Bluebell Photo Shoot. The more prepared you are for the day, the more beautiful photos you get and more smoothly your shoot will go.

WHAT IS "MINI SESSION"?
A
mini session is a fun and affordable way to capture beautiful maternity, children or family photographs. It is a photography session that typically lasts about 20-30 minutes. Clients are able to select their favourite images after the shoot from an online gallery of edited images (your proofing gallery will contain between 20 and 40 images).  My goal is to keep it simple and fun and get as many posed and candid shots as possible.

THE SHOOTING DATE

It’s difficult to predict the exact dates, when the bluebells will be full in bloom - every year you can expect the beautiful carpet of bluebells  between  20th April and 10th May. Therefore please bear in mind, the dates may change, 1-2 weeks earlier or 1-2 weeks later.

WHAT IF I AM LATE FOR THE SESSION?

The session time is 30 minutes and I am not able to reschedule your session due to the schedule of the day (I would have client before/after your session) . If you are late, that will subtract from your overall session time of 30 minutes and the number of photos that I can deliver. I recommend you arrive 5-10 minutes early to ensure you are relaxed and ready for your shoot. Please take extra time for traffic and parking.

WHAT IF IT RAINS ON SELECTED DATE ?
If it rains, we will simply transfer your session to another date. Your money will be refunded if it rains on the back up day or we can reschedule to another date that mutually suits us both.

RESPECTING THE BLUEBELLS
The bluebells are special and are easily damaged. When I am photographing amongst the bluebells, I always ask my clients to tread carefully and keep to the pathways or empty patches.  I would appreciate if you could tell your children before the shoot that we treat the bluebells with the respect they deserve and that they should not be picked or not be trampled upon. If your child keeps on damaging the flowers I would be forced to photograph your family outside the bluebell field or cancel the shoot. Thank you.

WHAT TO WEAR

If you’re planning on having family portraits taken in the bluebells, your outfits is key to getting great results. Clothing can make or break an image, so here are a few tips to bear in mind when preparing for your session.

·     Everyone  should dress in a similar-style, for example:  all casual or all formal
·      Try to not dress ‘the same’ but instead choose a maximum of 3 or 4 colours or tones which compliment each other to wear between you all
·     Choose soft, neutral or pastel colours  - blues and pinks, greys and neutrals.
·      Floaty light dress or skirts looks fabulous for ladies and girls
·      Man and boys might wear jeans or chino trousers
·      Navy looks great with this colour pallet, and is much more flattering than black
·      Women’s clothing is more colourful than men’s clothing.  Consider the guys in more neutral colours and ladies in brighter colours
·      Stay clear of very dark clothing and very bright colours. Avoid bright purple, green or orange
·     Avoid clothing with big logos or patterns which can distract from the people in the image.
·     In the forest might be a little muddy. Wear shoes that you don’t mind getting muddy. Wellies look super cute on children
·     Your feet will mostly be out of view in the images, but you can also bring some shoes to change into for when we are sitting down.
·      Avoid joggers or trainers
·      Remove any bulky watches or stray hairbands which you don’t want showing in photographs
·     Springtime  can be unpredictable. For colder days consider wearing layers instead thick coat, for example: thermal long sleeve vest under your main top, scarfs, gilet, cardigan or jacket
·     Iron your wardrobe. Every detail will show up in your portraits.
·     Pamper yourself. Fix your hair nicely, maybe some light curls. Do your makeup - put a little more than what you normally would as usually the pictures tend to not reflect the makeup. The purpose of this is for you to feel the best you can.

THE WAY YOUR PHOTOS WILL BE DISPLAYED
Make sure to let me know in advance, what is the final use of your photos: it makes a difference if you going to keep these images private (in your bedroom, or share with only close family members) or display in public (in your living room or share online with all of your friends).  The shooting style is different for clients, who ordering Wall Art or large format prints and different for photo albums, where you create a photo story that a single images.
